It looks like a lot of fellows who have been suffering from Topical Steroid Withdrawal are wondering if they can use other medications other than Topical Corticosteroids.

Dr. Kenji Sato who is the leader against Topical Corticosteroids in Japan and the advocate of NMT (No Moisturizing Treatment) warns that we shouldn’t use both Protopic and Neoral = Cyclosporin besides Topical Steroids.

They act like the same with Topical Steroids, meaning, you would have horrible withdrawal.

Please remember these 3 names below.

Topical Corticosteroids (Topical Steroids)

Protopic (Tacrolimus)

Neoral (Cyclosporine=Ciclosporin)

Per his book, although a lot of people expected a completed cure from Eczema/Atopic Dermatitis with Topical Steroids in the past, they didn’t work as expected after all, so pharmaceutical companies started to sell ‘Protopic‘.

However, it also didn’t work very much.

And even worse, since both of them didn’t show good results, they had to include ‘Neoral‘ = ‘Cyclosporin‘, immunosupplessant for organ transplants, as the thrid curative medicine.

They are used to prevent the rejection of organ transplants and bone marrow transplants by suppressing the immune system.

Do you think we have to use immunosupplessants that was made for organ transplants just for Eczema/Atopic Dermatitis?

The answer should be ‘No’.

They might look as if they cured your symptom first but you’d have bad withdrawal as well as Topical Steroids.

Before you use/take medications, please make sure if you are not prescribed such ones above because they may be available under multiple brand names or in several different forms usually.

Also, sometimes Chinese medicine (TCM)has something that acts in the same way as Topical Steroids in ingredients.

Below is the one but it has several different names and is included in food, Chinese medicine, cosmetics, etc…

I listed its names below.  Please do not take/use them as follows;

  • Liquorice
  • Licorice
  • Liquorice root
  • Glycyrrhiza
  • Glycyrrhizae Radix
  • Glycyrhiza glabra
  • Glucyrrhiza uralensis
  • Glycyrrhizin
  • Amakusa
  • Amaki
  • Kanzo
  • 甘草

Especially, Glycyrrhizin is included in many cosmetics.

Even if you got over the withdrawal, if you used/took it later without knowing, you ‘might’ have to begin all over again.  I didn’t know it and was taking licorice in Chinese medicine before.  Every time I stopped taking it, I got acute aggravation and realized that it was true afterward.

It should be acknowledged that Topical Steroid Withdrawal was a very real condition by all dermatologists all over the world.

The medical profession shouldn’t have its eyes closed to this anymore and should stop prescribing Topical Steroid for skin problems.

I just hope no one else would have to go through this agony that is artificially generated by human beings….forever! (^o^)o

Wishing your healing happens in the near future!

Sending Big Hugs,

Tokuko
